Our greatest challenge continues to be construction funding:

  • For the completion of the Bella Vista Bypass in Northwest AR
  • For the 150-mile segment between Fort Smith and Texarkana, AR
  • For I-49 South (the Coastal Connection, also known as America’s Energy Corridor) from New Orleans to Lafayette, LA. This conversion of US 90 to I-49 will provide an additional  hurricane evacuation route for the Louisiana gulf coast, as well as enhancing economic development for the Port of New Orleans and other ports and cities along the route.

Northwest Arkansas to receive $25 million BUILD grant for I-49 Bella Vista bypass

Northwest Arkansas will receive a $25 million federal grant to build a 4.81-mile segment of Interstate 49 in Missouri and to complete the 18.9-mile Arkansas/Missouri connector, or the Bella Vista bypass.

$25M grant to help fund I-49 construction

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $25 million to complete the work of the AR/MO connector.

NWA planners apply for BUILD grant to pay for I-49 gap between AR/MO

The NW AR Regional Planning Commission has once again applied for federal funding to complete a 4.8-mile segment of Interstate 49 in Missouri to the state line. The segment is the only portion of the 18.9-mile Arkansas/Missouri Connector, or the Bella Vista Bypass, that doesn’t have the needed funding identified to complete the project.
