Connectivity focus in Alma



Good things are happening in Alma, AR, a city that has chosen to rebrand itself as the "Crossroads of America" in anticipation of I-49 intersecting I-40 on its doorstep. Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department has allocated $27 million for planning and engineering of a new bridge across the Arkansas River and 13 miles of interstate to connect I-49 at Alma to the section in Chaffee Crossing, Fort Smith.

AR residents give input in Barling to ArDOT on I-49 project

Fort Smith, AR-area residents had the opportunity to learn more about a proposed I-49 project Thursday during an ArDOT public involvement meeting to discuss 13.7-mile project between AR Hwy. 22 in Sebastian County to the Interstates 40/49 interchange in Crawford County.

Forms and information circulated during the ARDOT public meeting last week for the section of I-49 connecting Barling and Alma can be found on their website. Surveys must be submitted by May 11, 2018.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration have cooperated on an environmental re-evaluation and redefined conceptual alignment for a new section of Interstate 49 approximately 13.7 connecting Sebastian County and Crawford Counties at Interstate 40.
